My Bloggy 2008 Year in Review

It’s so hard to believe that another year is coming to a close. Even though I haven’t blogged as much as I would like this year, I do love being able to go back and read my old entries. It definitely makes for a nice online journal anyway.

So without further ado, here are some highlights from 2008.

January: A few of my rare organizing tips – Note to self: make sure I update that notebook

February: The most important Super Bowl of my life – Wow, that makes this year my 25th Christian birthday.

March: What About Baab? – My first little lamb. He’s bigger now, but still so much fun.

April: Wildlife Lessons on the Farm – Gotta love the deer camera

May: A Hodge Podge of Memories – Wow, that was a busy month!

June: Some girls like flowers – This little hen was so much fun.

July:  Our trip to Durango – The trip of a lifetime. Such great memories.

August: Farm Style Drive In – I had to return the projector for work, but it sure was fun while it lasted!

September: The post in which I actually talk about homeschooling –  Wow, I needed to reread this.

October: Some things take time – Who knew a game of golf could mean so much?

November: Thanksgiving beyond measure – And my brother just called me on my birthday. For the first time- EVER!

December: I think it’s the quiet – Now, to just enjoy that same quiet each day!

So here’s to 2009. No matter what it holds, I’m so thankful to know the One who holds it all in His hands and blesses us beyond measure!

P.S. – I’d love to know what entries are your favorites. Do you like the pictures of the animals and their stories. Do you like it when I ummm, actually talk about homeschooling? Do you like more of the spiritual stuff? Or do you just enjoy the day-to-day happenings? Our version of alternative housing

While we have read a lot about straw bale housing, we finally decided to actually it was time to do some actual construction!

Of course, we only wanted to spend about $25 so no big fancy house or anything.

Instead, we decided to build a straw bale dog house for our beasties!

We found straw bales locally for $2.50/bale and bought 12 of them. We used two of them in the barn and the rest for the actual dog house.

Two for each side, two for each section on the front, then we put the old messed up top from our picnic table (covered with a tarp) across the top, and  then used the last two bales to weigh it down.

Tony and the boys made it big enough for all three dogs. Not that Mary Jane will actually let everyone in there. But, we tried anyway.

Hank says it’s very cozy in there.

But he’s got other things to do – places to go, people to see, things to bark at.

And Faith approved too. She thought it was very nice of us to build a house for the OUTSIDE dogs, but she reminded us that she’s an inside dog and that she really must get back in the house and guard the recliner. She’s dedicated like that! All business, all the time.

But Mary Jane? She LOVES it. And has claimed it as hers alone.

The socks

So many of you commented about the cozy socks that I figured the nice folks at Bath & Body Works would appreciate me letting you know that they are their Sweetest, Softest Socks Ever!

One of my neighbors surprised me with them as a gift and I’ve barely taken them off in the past 4 days! They are so warm and comfy, I could truly just live in them 24/7.

So, no I didn’t knit them. I don’t even know how to knit. But I happen to have a wonderful neighbor who picks out awesome gifts!

I think it’s the quiet

To so many people, Christmas is all about the children, or all about the big gatherings with family and friends. I realized tonight that to me, it’s about the quiet.

As my family is all tucked in for the night and I listen to the wintery winds blow, I’m reminded of the simplicity and beauty of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. How that birth brought joy and hope in ways that most of us can’t even truly comprehend. Don’t you think that sometimes we begin to take the gift of Him for granted? Most of us probably didn’t long for a Messiah the way that the Jewish people did in Jesus’ day.

More than likely, most of us have heard the story time and time again, but all the while life throws us twists and turns and somehow we lose the sacred hope that Jesus gave to all of us. We forget that truly He is Immanuel, God With Us!

"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"–which means, "God with us."
Matthew 1:23

In Him, we find the strength to keep going when we feel like we just can’t.
In Him, we find more than enough love to love the unlovely.
In Him, we find the key to forgiving people who don’t even ask for forgiveness.
In Him, we find hope for when things look impossible.
In Him, we find beauty for ashes and grace undeserved.
In Him, we find the way to Heaven when we humbly realize that we can never "measure up".
In Him, we find healing and blessings that we could never even expect.
In Him, we find that quiet still voice that speaks words of life –
I love you. You are mine. Just rest.

Be still, and know that I am God.
 Psalms 46:10

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psalms 23: 1-3

So even as I sit and enjoy the quiet stillness tonight, I just wanted to share a bit of it with you all. No matter where you are or what you are going through, because of Christmas, God is with us. He longs to be your Saviour, Lord, Comforter, Counselor, Advocate, Redeemer, and so much more. He is already with us. Listen for the quiet and savor your moments with Him!
